Johan de Villiers qualified at University of Pretoria in 1975 - Baccalaureus in Landscape Architecture The partnership 'Dayson & de Villiers' was formed in 1976, and Van der Merwe joined in 1984. Partnership 'Dayson de Villiers & Van der Merwe' was annulled in 1994. Johan de Villiers was a part owner in a restaurant near the Old Harbour in Hermanus, which he sold and resumed practicing as a professional Landscape Architect. Prior to the annulment, partnership "Dayson de Villiers & Van der Merwe" was one of the top Landscape consulting practices in South Africa, planning projects throughout South Africa & Botswana. The practice was awarded several competitions and merit awards.

More than a decade ago Johan partnered with Ignis Goosen in 2005 and they became a great success story within the Landscape Architecture industry with several Golden award-winning projects all over South Africa, still today they are competitive within the industry.
Michael Kotze joined the JDV landscape studio team in 2019 after completing his studies and is now head of the Technical division of the firm.
